Classification and description of artificial turf

June 18, 2022

The Artificial Turf is divided into a woven base fabric, a synthetic fiber that simulates a grass leaf shape, and a coating that functions as a fixed surface on the back surface and is applied to an artificial turf on a sports field, a court floor, and a green land.

Its raw materials are mainly polypropylene, and polyvinyl chloride and polyamide can also be used. The leaves are painted with green grass and UV absorbers are added.

Artificial turf has the advantages of bright appearance, green seasons, vividness, good drainage performance, long service life and low maintenance cost.

The quality requirements for the foundation of artificial turf sports systems are mainly concentrated on three aspects: hardness, flatness and drainage slope.

There are three basic types of Artificial Grass that are commonly used: asphalt base, cement base, and gravel base. Which type is mainly used by the local climate, climate and budget, and is particularly suitable for climates with large temperature differences in the north and low winter temperatures. Because of its high cost, it is not the most suitable foundation type for warm and humid environments. Because the construction of the gravel foundation is simple and convenient, the construction cost is low, and drainage is rapid, it is common in the south, but because of its poor rigidity and stability, it has long time After use, loose foundations are likely to occur, resulting in uneven foundations; therefore, in most regions of China, cement concrete has become an economical, practical, and cost-effective artificial grass foundation type. Shuanghe Sports, based on its rich artificial grass system experience, makes a brief introduction to the artificial grass-cement concrete-mixed soil foundation as follows:

1. The requirements for the flatness of the foundation surface are relatively high to ensure that the thickness of the artificial grass surface is uniform and the elasticity is uniform. The flatness pass rate is above 95%.

5 meters ruler error 3MM, slope: horizontal 8 inches, longitudinal 5 inches, semicircular area 5 inches, the surface should be flat, smooth, ensure drainage.

2, the foundation should have a certain degree of strength and stability.

3, the surface is uniform and solid, no cracks, no rotten edged surface, smooth seams, cut about 6000mm × 6000mm as well.

4, cushion compaction, density greater than 95%, after the medium-sized roller compactor, no significant wheel marks, no loose loose soil, waves and other phenomena.

5. The cement foundation must have a water-repellent layer. The water-repellent layer adopts a new PVC thicker water-repellent film, the junction should be greater than 300mm, and the margin is greater than 150mm.

6, consider leaving expansion joints, the width of 5 mm.

7. The basic maintenance period is 2-3 weeks.

(a) Not filled with artificial turf

In the United States, artificial turf fiber materials used in most artificial turfs are high-grade nylon materials, and they also use multiple fibers. The non-sand-filled artificial turf can also be classified into two types: seepage and impervious. This lawn resembles a natural lawn in appearance, with a layer of shock-absorbing foam cushion, and the shock-absorbing layer has a variety of different densities and thicknesses. Since there are not many manufacturers that have mastered the laying technology of artificial turf in China, and most of them are foreign technologies, the laying of shock-absorbing foam cushions must be completed by foreign experts when laying unsanded artificial turf. Under the shock-absorbing foam, a layer of smooth asphalt is laid as the foundation. The gravel, sand, and pebbles are also laid as the basis for the asphalt. The construction of the drainage system is the most critical link. In addition, this type of artificial turf must use artificial grass special machinery in the installation process, especially in the laying and installation of some professional or expensive sports venues, otherwise it will not be able to meet the requirements of site leveling and uniformity. For example, the hockey stadium of the Beijing Lucheng Institute of Sport and Technology, which is the hockey training venue for the 2008 Olympics, and some movable artificial grass and artificial artificial grass, etc., to meet special needs must be strictly constructed according to the above requirements.

(B) Filled particles artificial grass

Filled turfgrass has been accepted by many users in China because of its excellent sports performance and good practicality. Most of its materials are made of polyethylene (PE) or polypropylene (PP) or more than two kinds of materials, this kind of turf fiber is longer than non-sanding lawn, back surface is filled with 2-3mm quartz sand and rubber particles. Its sporting characteristics are very close to the natural lawn and can be used throughout the year and all seasons. Usually the lawn needs to be maintained for 6 to 8 months to reach its optimum condition after being laid. This type of lawn is particularly suitable for laying outdoors, and its warranty period is usually 5-8 years, but its actual life can be more than 5 years. In long-term dry weather, if you sprinkle a little water on the lawn, you can reduce the risk of athletes being bruised.

(c) Natural-man-made mixed lawn

Combining natural grass with artificial grass is no longer a dream. Now that there is a mixed lawn, the grass of this lawn is natural. The root structure of the grass is reinforced with plastic, for example, the grass is made of plastic. Grow on the bottom. In this way, the user-friendly nature of natural turf is well combined with the superior durability of artificial turf.

In China, 95% of particles are filled with artificial turf. However, many schools often overlook the most important construction steps when selecting products. The construction technology of artificial grass is very important for the maintenance of artificial grass and its longevity.

First of all, we must make technical preparations, make "three links and one leveling" and familiarize ourselves with the drawings first. Check and accept the basic construction quality. The laying site should be clean. The surface should be dry, smooth, free of debris, no wax, grease, and the minimum construction temperature should be maintained. Above 10°C. Use theodolites or other instruments to measure whether the surrounding facilities meet the size of the sports ground. If there are any unsuitable places, the correction should be made immediately. The allowable error is ±5 mm.

Secondly, artificial grass should be checked with the artificial grass production unit before the laying of the grass to check the quality of the grass, the density and the knitting process to meet the requirements. A standard site connection point can not exceed 30, at the same time, check whether the quality of the filling meets the environmental protection requirements. During the laying process, special tools are used to cut and trim the lawn according to specifications, and the overlapped lawns are cut flush. Use special glue for artificial grass sports venues, joints should be no more than 2 mm. Bonding temperature should not be too low, the ambient temperature should be selected above 10 °C construction is appropriate; in addition should not be in the rain or mildew rain weather, otherwise it will lead to a long bonding time or even cause non-stick.

Finally, the filling of quartz sand and rubber granules is the most important part of the construction process. Only after the artificial turf surface material is installed, can the quartz sand and rubber granules be filled after being inspected and leveled to meet the requirements. The specification and quantity of the filling are determined according to the height and density of the grass. It should be noted that special sand injection machines and brushing equipment must be used to fill the granules to ensure the flatness and evenness of the site, as well as to improve the sports performance of the site. In addition, the quartz sand and rubber particles must be completely dry before they can be applied, otherwise the grass stems will be overwhelmed and affect the filling quality. Quartz sand should be filled with multiple layers, each filled with a brush back and forth brushing machine to fill the fill down. It is usually better to play back and forth more than 20 times in one venue.
